I asked for advice on how to replace my MH glass which had shattered. I was told to use Lexan. This is what happened 10 minutes after turning on the light.

I did that. Cost me $1.86. Got home, put it in, 10 minutes later, cracked and broke. Wasn't cracked to when I started it. They told me that it probably was not tempered and heat resistant for the 150w MH.

right. You have to have tempered glass. Anything other than glass will fail to block harmful UV.

So I ordered the original glass from JBJ. Should take a week to get it. Will turning the light on in the meantime harm the reef or fish?

without the glass, the light will literally cook your coral. Think "SUNBURN"

Set up some compact florescent lights if need be. It's not a lot of light but is better than nothing. Just get them as close as possible.

Need to be 27w or better. You should be able to go a week without light though. Just feed the coral something during that time if your water is to clean.

so I have a glass cover that came with the tank. Should I put that on? WIll that glass filter the UV light?

That glass cover will not work you will fry your coral. I left you 3 responses to this picture some how they got deleted. You need a sheet of glass to cover the tank before you get the replacement glass. It needs to be UV glass though.

are you serious?! i never used glass to cover my bulbs and i had a 250 watt mh on my 40br. uv is produced by the sun so why would you think that filtering it out is a must?

@ gabe_j. You either had bulbs that were UV shielded themselves, are lying, or are mistaken.
