This is an interesting contest that I feel a lot are getting wrong

Long exposure docent have to mean a 30 min exposure or movement for that matter

A long exposure to me is anything beyond hand held shutter speeds whether it be 2 seconds or two minutes

What I'm taking from this months subject is that there's more to taking reef photography than bright colors, expensive corals, or rAre fish. A lot seem to be struggling with their submissions because they seem to caught in a mindset of what the photo should look like. Why not try some nd filters with a small aperture on a fully lite reef or maybe using long exposures, timed flow, and timed lighting to create motion and sharpness in one photo.

Just a thought though

For this shot I did a 2 sec exposure with timed flow to create areas of movement and areas of in focus polyps. Canon 7d on tripod with 180 macro and shutter release

ehhh.... I don't think you know what your talking about...A lot of these people have the right idea...I've seen a lot of nice shots, I'm sure that most everyone knows that anything above standard shutter speeds is considered slow shutter speed... IMO .25-.5 second can even be called "long exposure" I prefer something a little longer in the 2-5second range because I'm take these kinds of photos under actinic T5s and they can be bright and over expose the shot and that just washes it out with blue my shot for this contest was 2seconds...If I were taking a photo of a dark city scape i'd be trying to shoot in the 1-5 minute range... I'd be amazed to see someones 30min tank shot! I have only seen a few photos with 30min exposure and they are usually dark with streaming cars/headlights lights or stars...

Lol maybe you should read a little more and you might learn something

THe reason you longer shutter speeds are washing out is lack of skill/knowledge

If you used nd filters you could shoot for 10 mins If you wanted to with as many lights as you want

As for the night cityscape one again lack of skill

Why shoot for longer than you have to unless your trying to achieve an effect by an excessively long shutter speed?

Of course you already know diffraction occurs somewhere above f18...

Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about
