No, I'm not sure. For now it appears there is enough room. I purposely left the top half of the tank empty (rock-free) for more swimming room. The key is that I plan on moving 11 hours away in about a year, so I will probably give the fish away, and I don't expect them to get too big for the tank in one year. I don't want to try to move them to a new home 11 hours away (I won't risk it).

lol they are all already wayyy too big for a 65. even the yellow tang

(65g minus 20lbs rock.. i assume you have more.. ~~~ 40g maybe 29g worth of space)

It's not only the amount of gallons a tank has. You need to consider open swimming space, room for maneuvering, the actual dimensions of the tank, and the ratio of these things to the size of the fish. There are plenty of articles on this that explain how this works.

To further clarify my point, look up on several different sites selling saltwater fish to see their recommended tank size for various fish. For example, for a Yellow Tang (since you brought it up), Doctors Foster & Smith recommends a minimum of a 100 gallon tank; Aquatic Connection = 70 gallons; Blue Zoo Aquatics = 75 gallons; and Vivid Aquariums = 60 gallons. So who's right? None of them! Read the description of the fish on most of these sites and they say this fish needs "ample room for swimming," which I feel I have provided by leaving the top half of the tank free of rock. Obviously if the Powder Blue Tang ever reaches 11 inches while I have him in captivity, I would reconsider keeping him in a 65 gallon tank.

OMG you tang police are re-effin-diculous. its plenty of space! that tang is fat, and well happy looking. god, i cant wait to see the stupid comments of, "you need at least a 125, at least, for ANY kind of tang whatsoever. seems like we are not too far away from that.

BINGO! That's exactly where my design came from and my reasoning. That article convinced me that I could indeed house these fish in my aquarium! Great work!
