Snake Id?

I think I've ID'd the snake as a juvenile black racer

rat snake

nah, I'm pretty sure it's a racer. the markings on the head look nothing like a rat snake. Thanks for the input though

does his belly look like a checker board??

couldn't tell, he was too busy trying to get the hell out of dodge. when I put him in the aquarium he was all kinds of pissed off. i went to http://www.floridabackyardsnakes.com/SouthernBlackracer.html and he looks exactly like the 2nd picture from the top.

On a similar note, I found a 2 1/2 foot king snake in my bathroom last thursday. He escaped into a hole under a cabinet before I could catch him. Needless to say I spent all day friday tearing the bathroom apart (for the wife, she hates snakes) and never found him.

There are so many snakes imported to Florida I wonder how many that link covers LOL

There was a documentary recently on imported pythons taking over the everglades. People buy them when they're small, get quickly overwhelmed by the growth rate and just drop them in the woods. I could smack the people that do this...don't buy an animal if you're not fully aware of the husbandry requirements of adult specimens...

This is definitely the incredibly deadly viper.
