will25u Posted December 3, 2008 We inherited this tank from my MIL. We just got the rock in it on Sunday Nov. 30th. I guess we're doing OK with it. I had a freshwater 20 gallon growing up with Gourami's so doing saltwater is completely different. We don't have a heater yet and the temp. stays around 68 or so. Quote Link to comment

will25u Posted December 3, 2008 I've read, thanks. There's only rock, water, sand, a therm, and a cleaning magnet in there oh and some pH thing that the fish store gave to us free. All has been in there except the rock. We just added that a few days ago. The things on the rock were there when we got it. If we're ahead then OK, just tryin' to do it right. Quote Link to comment
r20crazy Posted December 3, 2008 pismo...... what a tool. looks good, just wait a few weeks b4 doing anything else. just top off with ro/di water(not salt water), no water changes, and keep light cycle minimum to keep algae growth down while tank establishes itself in next few weeks. p.s. get a heater, water temp needs to be around a constant 78 Quote Link to comment
JBM Posted December 3, 2008 i like the aquascape & sand combination... looks good so far. make sure you read, read & read some more. Quote Link to comment
joesmoe517 Posted December 3, 2008 Indo-pacific black sand for the win! yea do the above mentioned things, 78 degrees, <7 hour light pd, r/o water topoff. Oh, and make sure to tap all the bubbles off the wand of that cheapo hydrometer i see off to the left or you might get an incorrect salinity reading. Quote Link to comment
Tyekidd Posted December 3, 2008 As most have said, 78 degrees is good for your live rock. Also it's a choice of personal preference, but most people keep the rocks away from the sides of the tank for easier cleaning of the glass when algae starts to become a problem. I started my tank only about 2 weeks ago ... but I have learned so much already from reading up on the forums here and asking questions! Good luck! =) Quote Link to comment
