starfish in macro valley

i know things are out of focus as some parts... i'll maybe resubmit a better shot...

It looks pretty cool. May be it is a bit out of focus. I am not a pro though ... but seeing every single chaeto line will not be too pretty either.

thanks. i am still getting used to macros. will try and get some where the focus is actually in the CENTER of the shot.

Overall very interesting. Although maybe you could make the chaeto that is actually visible to pop out more somehow. If you can do it in a manual setting I suggest you lower the F-stop a lot more and give it a go.

What camera you using?

EOS 1-D umm, the oldenst model... just using a 28mm-70mm macro lense. i also incorporate a 10x jewelers loupe in the pictures. allows me to take photos from just 3/4" away from the object. i find it hard to get a clear shot though, because i have to hold a 1lb camera in one hand, and a tiny loupe in the other hand ON the lense of the camera... its not as easy as it sounds. thanks for the critque, and i will try that.

changed photo to a more detailed one

It just looks like a blurry photo to me. I would try to increase the depth of field and try to get a focused detailed picture. I think you could make it a much stronger image than just a bunch of green.

k, i guess i could try... the loupe is tiny. maybe a macro of mixed macro algaes? i could mix in a red one for contrast

You have a Canon 1D? Holy shit! Go treat yourself to a macro lens and you will wonder for a while why you stuck with a loupe :-D.

... dont want to dish out 1k for a stupid macro lens. the min focus distance will still be 1.6' , which is pretty pathetic.

300mm macro lens... went through my dads lenses today and found a 200mm macro lense, will try that

You cut off your starfishes leg, put a piece of it on the green algea and took a picture of it.

no? i have four stars in the fuge and the one in front of the algae happened to be the one i just cut the leg off of three days before. i shoulda waited a few days to resubmit though, just added some more ulva to the fuge, but i guess doesnt look natural anyways since i just put it in and didnt have time to grow.

And still looking for criticism? First of all the whole photo has a haze of white. It might be the glass or the water. Another thing that you could do is to increase the contrast of the photo. And the starfish isn't as sharp as it could be. Try holding the camera more steady and focusing on the starfish as sharp as you can get it.

The photo overall has a nice composition and color variety.

yup thanks for the critique. didn't quite know what to focus on in the shot. it's a shame i am too lazy to resubmit... again (lol) because the whole rock on the left that's empty in the shot is not covered in caulerpa and ulva algae.
