Nice, you should be feeding him more than that though. Maybe 4x a week. what size tank you got him in?

he's on a 40gal FW tank... before I'm feeding him every other day but he's suffering EYE-DROP which is a common problem of Arowanas, its like obesity in human.. that's why I only feed him 2x a week for now. He really grows fast, I might need to change his tank to a 80gal after 6months.

Great Fish I have owned several over the years inluding a few Black Arrowanas. And I agree with "G" Swami you may want to feed him more. I used to feed mine at least 4 to 5 times a week which consisted of would consist of a good Pellet food (Hakari Carnivorous is my favorite)3 to 4 x's then either gold fish, Crickets (which they love to jump for it you get them in the routine)or an occasional nite crawler or meal worm 1x every other week as a treat. I would highly recommend using a prepared diet (Pellets) as the main staple they will get the correct vitamins and balance needed. They are high energy fish and to truely get them to thier impressive adult size they need to eat. Once your fish as reached maturity around 2 feet then the feedings can be cut down to 3 x's a week. Just to keep down on the waste. This fish is listed as a tank buster as I am sure you know. My final growout tank was a 150 and they were kept "solo" and shortly before I would sell them they would be a little cramped. This was usually around 3 years. Send us pics when it is in the 2 foot range.

He may have eye drop because they are not disigned to live on seafood. (Shrimp) in the wild their dies consist of mostly insects and Occationally small fish. Shrimp are very fatty for other fish to eat....

Arowanas get huge! They are jumpers too right?

Nice fish though. I've got a 90 fw community. It's stocked with a bunch of fish that should not get along but they do.

Yes! They are jumpers. Came home one time and heard a flopping sound, turned out to be my $1200 Asian Arowana on the floor, picked him up and put him back in, luckily he was okay

yes they are amazing fish i love them i have tried breading them in the past i got fry but nothing lived. i would feed him more often and maybe smaller portions and if you were to feed him krill he will turn a bright red color it is amazing his fins and alittle on the body will get a redish tinge to it but still keeping the silver. Good luck

Thanks for the messages.. I might try to feed him formulated pellets once in a while because he's getting too fat on shrimps that causing him Drop-eye. As what I've read about arowanas, their color will vary on their diet. Since I've bought him I've been feeding him shrimps and his scale color appears to be mettalic green and orange linings on the tail and fins. I tried to feed him guppies and mollies before but I feel guilty everytime I saw him sneaking to those poor fishes, so I trained him to feed on frozen foods. Arowanas are really graceful swimmer and very relaxing to watch.
