c est ma Posted December 22, 2007 Definitely one of the shots, if not THE shot, that made me almost not enter this contest myself. I could stare at the enlargement for hours. How can something be so stunning AND eat macros? Does it have a downside--like scraping coralline or toppling corals, etc.? And to echo travisurfer, what kind of urchin is it? Quote Link to comment
breebauer Posted December 23, 2007 That's really neat, and different!! Now, you have to tell us exactly what it is, and where you got it, and we'll vote for you! :-) I know I want one! Just kidding, you'll win anyway! Great shot!!! Quote Link to comment
ezcompany Posted December 23, 2007 As far as IDing it, all i know its a short spine urchin, I can't get more technical than that cuz i simply don't know =( Only downside is that it sheds its spines and knocks over frags now and then. other than that i love him, he's all over the tank! c est ma Posted December 30, 2007 ^^^Hmmm. Looks quite possible, see this pic: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=6760531 If so, apparantly it's toxic: http://underwaterphotos.com/article5.htm Still gorgeous, though! Quote Link to comment
ezcompany Posted December 30, 2007 thanks for the links and photos, i did some googling of fire urchin and its definitely not it. i'm able to hold it in my hands and the spines are much shorter than the fire urchin Quote Link to comment
kappa Posted January 7, 2008 What the! Hey, I love my sea urchin, and that is one colorful and unique urchin I never seen before. Good find ezcompany! I have mine in the refugium, and it helps keep the cheato mowed down a bit. Quote Link to comment
