I have not had time or money to get much in the way of livestock, so I just tell myself I am making really sure that my water quality is stable. Plus I just love seeing high water quality.

get that piece of airline off the power head it is not supposed to be used for saltwater. It is injecting air into the water, which, when you get livestock will affect them.

Having an airline tube on a powerhead in any saltwater tank will cause insane amounts of 'salt creep' to build up around the tank edges and on the light fixture/canopy from all the bubbles popping ... very annoying to clean but certainly not dangerous. Just to clarify: Air bubbles or "microbubbles" in the water WILL NOT hurt or cause any harm to your fish, corals, or any other reef organism in your tank (not even sponges). If in doubt, look at any video footage of a real reef, you'll see millions upon millions of bubbles cascade through the water each time a wave breaks above the reef.

doctorthompson when water breaks above a reef the bubbles dont touch the corals, rocks . I have been scuba diving alot and not once have I seen bubbles attached to reefs and certainly not fish in any way. Infact have never even noticed the type of tiny bubbles that a faulty skimmer, powerhead can give in any reef.

I have only scuba in Miami and Cancun so no expert but even in Key West shallow reefs have never noticed bubbles attached in anyway (when you keep marine tank you look ,notice stuff like that)

Tiny bubbles in the water column do affect the livestock in a negative way. Try a skilter on a small tank than you will see .
