My BC14 after 6wks & 2days FTS

How long is it going to take for this tank to turn purple? I've been trying to maintain calcium levels above 400 using PurpleUp. I'm currently running a 150 watt Coralife Advanced Series Hang on Tank Mount w/ 20,000K, Maxi-Jet 1200, Rio Mini 90, ATO controller, and a $10 Honeywell Fan, and a half dozen light timers!

Thank you very much. Because I leave home 4 days out of the week, I'm trying to make this system run on semi-auto-pilot. The only thing I want for my wife to do for me while I am away is dose it with supplements and feed the fish every other day. I figured the tank will run much cleaner with a protein skimmer, so I ordered the mini one from Rio. DOES ANYONE THINK THE TANK DOESN'T NEED A SKIMMER OR WILL IT HELP? *I now change the water 15-20% per week, and the new ATO is so sweet. Before this weekend, the wife was hating me for having to top off twice per day!

Looks awesome. The PurpleUp will take a little while for the purple coraline algae to grow. I've had mine up for about the same time maybe a week or two more and I have my first, pencil eraser tip sized, spot on the back wall. Give it sometime, you will notice it.

Very nice. I have BC14 also and am looking to go with MH retro. I was going to get

70Watt Sunpod because it fits nicely over tank. Did you consider Sunpod?

I like the clip on look of the Coral Life.

Any heat issues with 150watt?

What about noise level with the hood gone?

thanks

If you look closely at the next photo which shows the full tank setp, you'll see that there is a 14"x11" plastic top (from Home Depot). It's actually a perfect fit and it offers a cleaner look than having the tank completely open. I went with Coralife because I wanted the ability to mount it higher and access the tank without having to lift a hood or move anything (BTW: You'll need to cut a thin slit at the base of the light mount inorder to install it successfully). However, TWO things happened as a result: 1) Excessive Heat & 2) Rapid Evaporation. Hence, the need for the ATO system and cooling fan. As long as the fan is running the entire time the Halide is on, the tank maintains its temp anywhere between 79-80.5 degrees! As far as the noise, the upgraded Maxi-Jet 1200 makes the most noise and there was no noticable difference with the top off. But then again, the tank is located in the kitchen so sound isn't much of an issue.
