fishdude Posted July 1, 2006 Got this guy yesterday from my very generous lfs for $95, normally goes for 300-400 in this area. Quote Link to comment
bozzy Posted July 1, 2006 woah hees lovely....i was thinking about turning my 20g that im taking apart at m into a sea horse tank any pointers? Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 1, 2006 well from what i've learned its good to have branch type rocks for them to hang onto, good hiding places and a weaker flow than what you would normally have because they are very calm so they like the water flow to also be calm. The tricky part is feeding them the first time after acclimation, after that it gets easier. Mine is eating mysis shrimp and live ghost shrimp. The live shrimp is nice to have cuz it lets them eat when they want to, the mysis is for variety in their diet, i'm going to try frozen krill soon to see how he likes it. Quote Link to comment
Fishfreak218 Posted July 1, 2006 $300 - $400 LOLOLOL!!!!! um BTW 95 is a little much for Hippocampus Reidi (aka Brazilian seahorse)... this place is selling Captive Bred H. Reidi for i think its $49.99 www.seahorsesource.com also for seahorse questions and info go to www.seahorse.org Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 1, 2006 This seahorse is a wild one though straight from the ocean just how i like it, its not captive bred, though I cant speak for the ones sold in the other fish stores in the area. Quote Link to comment
DementedLullaby Posted July 1, 2006 I would prefer CB over WC but that's just me...0_o Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 1, 2006 CB is a safer way to go but the way i see it is i started a saltwater tank cuz i wanted a "chunk of the ocean." Which i've noticed is what a lot of people in this hobby are going for and what better way to accomplish that than by having livestock from the actual ocean. Unfortunately i cant get any wild corals, but that still leaves fish, so its all good! Quote Link to comment
g0tfish Posted July 1, 2006 If everyone got a chunk of the ocean, there would be no ocean. Quote Link to comment
Fishfreak218 Posted July 1, 2006 LOL! then you got ripped off even MORE! i mean the color is great but ina few weeks you may find him a solid black color.... its your fish.. but you got RIPPED OFF! I can find Wild Caught SH's for like $20 and im sure there is a online vendor that could mail you them and it would have been cheaper Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 1, 2006 Fishfreak i really do appreciate you trying to "protect my wallet" if you will, but i know that i could've gotten it online for less but i dont like doing that at all with livestock (other than zoo's) i just dont trust it, and money isn't really an issue with me anyway so i prefer to spend more in-store over less online for livestock, dry goods though i'll buy from anywhere. Actually speaking of zoo's if you or anyone could give me a good site for them that would be awesome. Quote Link to comment
DementedLullaby Posted July 2, 2006 It's irresposible to take something from the wild when you can get the same thing CB. And it seems especially stupid considering you're likely to have more problems with the poor thing. I'd like to raise you in a cage but you don't see me doing it. Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 2, 2006 well its weird that you want to raise me in a cage, but i'm a human being not an animal, the difference being we're superior to them, which is why i dont see you doing it. And its not like i took all the seahorses in the world, and i didn't personally hire a scuba diver to go and get him for me the thing was already captured whether i or you wanted it to be or not so i think you're putting to much blame on me for it being caught. i think this is ridiculous that i'm being criticized like this cuz i bought something cool, which is funny cuz other people put up pics of their tanks with fish that have been caught from the wild but no one complained to them. Why am i the bad guy for buying something? i'd like someone to explain that to me. Quote Link to comment
DementedLullaby Posted July 2, 2006 Fair enough. I guess I was a bit harsh and I apologize. But just because you're superior doesn't really make it right...It's a living creature =/. Respect yanno.. I'd discourage ANYONE from buying WC stuff when they can get CB for the same or cheaper. WC is TONS harder to keep, you realize? It's more likely to die on you. If people stop buying WC it will create more breeding programs for the animals we want to keep. Sure you didn't buy all seahorses out there but you've let them know there IS a market for it which will lead them to take more and more from the wild. I really hope it does well for you, but in the future I'd take a second look at buying WC stuff...especially if you have the option of CB. Quote Link to comment
blooper74 Posted July 2, 2006 Just for the record, HUMANS are ANIMALS. No matter how much you try to deny it, we are all just as animalistic as every other creature on the planet. Keep in mind that evalution does not mean resolution. Just my $.02 Keep on reefin. Quote Link to comment
bozzy Posted July 2, 2006 imagine if we had not become the dominat species on the planet...we'd probly be kept in cages OWNED Quote Link to comment
fishdude Posted July 6, 2006 Apology accepted dementedlullaby and I agree with all of you, I'm all for respecting all living things which is why i will do my best to take care of any animal i may purchase, yes humans are animals if u want be to technical but we're still superior, i had a long 1 hr 30 min discussion in my philosophy class as to why we are... boy was that interesting, btw if we were inferior than yes we'd be put in cages but we're not so lets be thankful about that Quote Link to comment
debbeach13 Posted July 6, 2006 That is a wonderful looking horse none the less. Quote Link to comment
