10 gallon Beta Bowl(as it should be!)

The water level is low because these guys can jump, and I didn't want to give PetCo any more money than I already had... I couldn't wait another day to get the little guy out of that little bowl.

I put the bown in there with the old gravel in order to "seed" the tank.. He even has a heater now!

Betas supposedly do better in smaller containers.... they're surface breathers and I've heard something about that bladders not being able to handle pressure or something.... Funny pic tho!

actually bettas prefer much larger tanks with plants and other objects and they require heat as theyre tropical fish. keeping them in a bowl where they cant move is no good. and they do get air from the surface but just becase a tank is deeper doesnt mean they cant stay near the surface. sorry to have my first post be disagreeing with somebody but im just about to start a nanoreef but have a lot of experience with freshwater.

Yeah, I always feel sorry for those poor bettas in the store. Good job getting him into a good home!

Betas are incredibly resilient fish. I've heard that they have even lived in a rain-filled ox hoof print in and around rice patties in Asia. That said, I *could* live in a 10x10 cell for 25 years (if they ever catch me), but I would prefer to live in a much larger space. Kudos for giving this guy a better home.

Now give him a plant or two. :)

Also, submerge that heater before it explodes!

kudos for the excellent betta treatment i wish more people did stuff like that but you might want to add a filter too 50% water changes might work for a 8 oz cup but 10 gallon is a little different. i think thats a hang on the back heat so submerging it will be bad but the water level is a little low

i have an 18g tall tank for mine. right now i have a male and a female. used to keep two females with him but my mom borrowed one. they have mated 3 times in two weeks. no babies yet though. when they finally get it done right it will be my second batch of baby bettas in the same tank.they like plenty of plants, i also have wood in the tank.

Thanks for the comments.. I added a bit more water to cover the heater more, and will probably throw another gallon in tonight. I am going to add a filter, but I'm still researching if I want a sponge filter or HOB. I'm going to get strong lights and will be growing live plants also.

When I get my hands on a 20" cover I'll put that water right up to the top; pet peeve of mine when the tank is low!

I have a Betta in both of my freshwater planted tanks. But thats along with 18 other fish as well. They do very, very well, and are the centerpiece of the tank. Give them lots to swim in and out of; it's great to watch how they interact with their surroundings, as they aren't generally used to it coming from a tiny cup.

Yea you need the heat covered by water to the line or else the glass will crack on the heater...

This tank is quite a bit different now.. It is planted with a different heater entirely; it is one with a remote temperature control and the heater element is completely submerged.
