Venturi or Impact?

"Better" meaning power efficient or skimmate producer?

The downdraft skimmers are skimmate producers. So good they skim even plankton. This is a very powerful skimmer, good for overloaded tanks.

The venturi and downdraft both require very powerful pumps.

Less power required for needle wheel skimmers. They also skim well.

Recirculating needle wheel skimmers would do fine for a 100 gallon tank.

Less pretty but very power efficient are 6' tall air driven skimmers.

any skimmer will skim plankton....I have a needlewheel venturi that will go crazy when I dose DT phyto...

My favorite skimmer design is the venturi with a needlewheel or without it skims very well...

Spray Injection if you can afford it---because it's not just the skimmer it's all the crap that comes along with it. For a tank that size, there isnt a "hang on" injection skimmer--they are all in-sump or plumbed---higher quality and thus more $$$$$!!
