do i need a powerhead?

hi all, i have a eclipse 6g and an aquaclear 150 powerfilter with only live rock rubbles in it. i see alot of flow from the water return to my sand bed. do i still need a powerhead? TIA!

you dont need one necessarily, but it would be good to have one. i'm sure you have some dead spots in there.

if you can work out how many times the filter turns over the volume of the tank, that should give you an idea. I'd hazard a guess that it won't be more than 5 'tank volumes' per hour. To get the best out of live rock and to avoid dead spots, I'd say you need at least 10 tank volumes per hour turnover. For sps systems, you need much more. You can work our what size powerhead you need from this.

well my tank is 6 gallon and my filter pumps out 150 gph, does that mean i have atleast 20 times the volume of water per hour??

sounds plenty to me... but keep a close eye on things.
