Tostito
Is this a predatory zooanthid eating snail? I found it among a zoo colony. Would it cause an entire zoo colongy of about 200 heads to not fully open? Link to comment
Formerly MikeR.
yes it is....notice the cone.....it is a type of zoa eating snail Link to comment
nomomojo
I just pulled one out of my tank. I've seen it around for awhile getting bigger and bigger, then all my zoos started dissappearing. I always see it around the zoos. Here's a pic. Almost looks like a drill bit at the bottom of the snail. Link to comment
c est ma
Good pics! That cone-shaped operculum (the snail's "trap door") is diagnositic of the zoa-eating sundial snail (Heliacus sp.). Pick off all that you see. --Diane Link to comment
Formerly MikeR.
Yea i have seen typical sundials checkerboard shell, and have seen/had all black ones as well. Any snail with the trap door cone should be killed immediately. also i have some zoas in QT due to nudis and last time i dipped them there was a real small snail in between them (not a sundial) not sure if there are other zoa eating snails but got rid of him anyway. But dont remove all your snails cause my cerinth and strombus also get on the zoas they just clean up around them Link to comment
Daemonfly
Carefully inspect your zoos for it's EGGS as well! Link to comment
