PMD
Do you find that it relaxes you to sit and watch your reef after a stressful day at work? Do you think the benefit is on par with say having a dog or cat? Link to comment
darkwaterdevil
no i think its stressfull as hell i always want to be adding or changeing stuff. i dont have time to or money to Link to comment
florida8
hahaha! Yeah, you can go broke for sure... LOL But yes, I have a tank in every room... relaxes me, helps me unwind... 110%.. I have cats and dogs and birds too, but nothing is as relaxing as watching the tanks! Link to comment
darkwaterdevil
the fish are relaxing but seeing the tank not done isnt Link to comment
reffer9391
Watching a tank is up there with sleeping to me. But until you love it you stress over it getting it stocked, once up and running with a schudle set times and everything working right its great. Link to comment
aqualaw
I find it very therapeutic - when things are going right I'd say cats/dogs doesnt even compare to a well established reef. My wife is pregnant so now I'm stuck having to change the kitty litter and that stresses the heck atta me! Give me a box of salt water over any 4 legged animal any day! Link to comment
Haagenize
a girl is more therapeutic then this =P Link to comment

kinetic
it's the most stressful freakin thing in the world. when your corals are all messed up, your heater blows, fish die, detritus builds up, flame angels eat $200 worth of corals, emerald crabs killing frags of your favorite acros... it's damn stressful. ALexpsycho
Many years ago me and a friend of mine had this idea of making a bonsai marine tank.I was in Santorini and got some stuff out of the sea and established a tank with all this rocks and crabs I got volcanic black sand from the island and even I got water from the sea.I got a filter running and a heater and that was it.I got the virus.Well the tank died and all the experience I got from the tank was: just never try it again. Now I see that I can maintain a reef tank.Oh my God everything is ready for use at the petstore.I can even order living creatures from the internet.Well I am addicted to it.Maybe sometimes I wonder if those tiny little creatures come from the pacific or from space.Maybe you must start wondering if at night your anemones come out of your tank and choke you...or if the stuff your skimmer collects is lsd .... icenine
In general it's a very relaxing hobby.... peppered with intermittent bouts of cursing (at equipment, livestock or aquascaping) and the occasional full blown panic. Link to comment
formerly icyuodd/icyoud2
as crazy as it sounds, i have a hard time sleeping in places i cant hear running water. i find myself staring at the tank for hours, even after having the tank for over a year. very relaxing in my little stress induce world Link to comment
Scoot
Yea, I read somewhere, that fish tanks are proven to be a stress reducer. I dont think that counts the people who set them up, and maintain them, cause im always worried if somethings gonna die. But yea the tanks are pretty cool. The best thing about having them is you always find that one idiot, who says they can set up the same tank with fake coral, then you show him your tank, and shut the person up. I mean people think its cool if you point to your tank, and tell them everything in that tank is alive, nothing fake. Link to comment
neanderthalman
Lets not forget....reef tanks = chick magnets Would they be a stress reducer by secondary effects? Link to comment
