brent-konieczny
I haven't added macro to the fuge since I set it up, but I forgot about the shaving brush I threw back there at start up. No wonder all the excess nutrients and algae were showing up in the display!?! I pulled the brush out and it smelled like rotting sulfur. Problem solved . I duct taped the new fuge light to the wall behind the tank. Once I get the macro filled in you shouldn't be as distracted by the light coming through the false wall during the day. When the light kit I ordered comes, the fuge will be lit from the hood. Link to comment

brent-konieczny
I've been working on the tank. I got a bubble coral for $5 today. It has a huge skeleton and one tiny head so I got to figure out how to break it up. Still trying that anemone also. I hung him upside down for 15min (out of water) and he still didn't come off. I HATE THAT THING!!! I am going to try longer later today. The tank is a mess. Nothing is aquascaped cause I just am trying to keep everything alive without the anemone getting to them. brent-konieczny
Who thinks I should get a cleaner shrimp? Enough space for one? Link to comment
me03
a cleaner shrimp would look cool. With macro alge your set-up should support it. Link to comment
brent-konieczny
Here are some new pics. My Strawberry Gamma (Pseudochromis porphyreus), "Rocket" Blasto Frag (a little pinched at the time) One of two birdsnest frags (Has been growing more recently) Link to comment
brent-konieczny
I added a constant drip kalk supply and the birdnest is starting to take off! In a couple weeks I'll post the growth. Somehow I magically got the right rate for a constant all-day drip to keep my tank level first try. I guess I have kalk-drip super powers? Come on somebody post or at least tell me if there is something I could do better. Link to comment
Kingofthejungle
Really diggin the design! Oh and nice corals Haahaha pg4!! Link to comment

You can see limpet tracks over the back wall. He did that last night. I was wondering when he was going to clean it Link to comment
aquadrone100377
looking good! I just ordered my replacment bulb for my hex yesterday so hopefuly I can get moving on that again before spring break is over and then i'll have some update pics to post to Link to comment
brent-konieczny
Today my 2x28 kit came in. It came with 2-6500k bulb. Now I will order a true actinic from premium aquatics. Here is the light plan. 1. Make a reflector for inside the hood 2. Put 6500 towards the very back, 50/50 10k/actinic in middle, and True actinic in front. 3. Remote mount both ballasts and see if I will need a fan. I won't be able to do this until I go home for easter break due to lack of tools/ect. at college. Just a reminder: That's 82watts overhead+13 lighting the fuge from the back! Anybody have any suggestions or does my plan sound ok? Link to comment

nanocurious
Well Done! That leather is awesome! keep up the good work!. Link to comment
brent-konieczny
Yeah, the leather grows like a weed. I have to cut pieces off every month. I'm trying to grow some of the frags to be a quarter size of the main coral. Then I will find a new home for the big guy. The wood polyps have also been growing steadily. Here is a picture of how the full grown polyps will look. I guess they are much more rare than clove polyps. Link to comment
brent-konieczny
Update The zoos on the rock with birdsnest frag have reached 20polyps (started with 4 about 5 months ago). Here is a picture of one of the chitons (I think there are 4-5 in my rock). Also, a picture of my keyhole limpet. Link to comment

jasutton
I just spent 30 min reading this whole thread and have to say: Brent, this tank is amazing...i was going to do a 2.5 but you have inspired me to do a 5.5 You are a muse my friend. Be prepared for tons of questions i am terrible at DIY. But i live in oak park so i am a quick trip! And where are you finding all these frags for so cheap? keep the posts Link to comment
brent-konieczny
I'm glad I inspired your tank ideas. I won't be home from school till around may 16, but thats not too far into the future. All my mostly $5 corals are scavenged from the sand beds of various fish store tanks. You have to look very closely around the tanks to find small reproduced or broken and alive bits of corals. Just ask someone in the store if you can have whatever it is for $5. They will usually gladly get it for you. Thats how I got my pavona yesterday. Here is a list of corals I got in return for study the store's sandbed carefully -4 polyp blasto ($20 at expensive lfs) -monti ($5) -hairy shroom ($10) -2 different kinds of red shroom (one was attached to a hermit's back (price of hermit) -zoo frag ($5) -finger leather (in different tank $5) -bubble coral ($5) -wood polyps ($4) Link to comment
