nanokube
Hey I was wondering if it's normal for a fire shrimp to shed his skin. I thought he multiplied lol and realized it was a layer he shed antenna and everything. Anyway I have read mixed things about sheding and was looking for info Im sure im gonna get a multitude of different opinions but PLEASE leave them the more feedback the better. Besides that everything is cool and Beautiful. Peace, Love and Fish! ~P Link to comment

raciampa
It is called molting, and it is nothing to worry about. Unless it is doing it excessivly. It is probably just growing. Link to comment
nanokube
its the first time and ive heard they do that, other people said its because of water condition changes but my waters ok. I wish I seen him do it Mine does not hide he's a little freak upside down and all over the tank when I put my hand in he comes to it and him the 2 clowns and the goby are all buddys now Link to comment
minimalist
Leave the molted layer in the tank. It contains vitamins and nutrients that help the shrimp properly grow it's new exo-skeleton. (What is it called? Skin? Exo-skeleton? ?? Link to comment
Fishfreak218
why is it bad for the shrimp to do it excessivly..one fo my skunk cleaner shrimps has alreday molted twice since i had him..(.i have had him for about 3 weeks) Link to comment

Caesar777
Remove molts; the shrimp often does NOT eat it, and it just fouls the water. Link to comment

rbaby
Other inhabitants will eat it however...I leave mine in...my hermits go crazy for it. Link to comment
minimalist
Well, wetwebmedia.com's Bob Fenner says that the molt will not foul the water. He suggests leaving it in. Granted, reefing isn't an exact science and critter behavior varies greatly. Either way, it's not going to make a monumental impact. To each their own. -David Link to comment

Angel
I don't remove the molts either. Hermits love to pick at them and they are in shreds in no time. Link to comment

I think there's a 20% mortality rate of invertibrates during a molt. I'll have to check, though. Link to comment
