ixtangxi Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 ok so i start my cycle with live sand and live rock and a cocktail shrimp but instead of a raw cocktail i shrimp i accidently drop a cooked one is it goin to be ok please help....stupid me..
brandonlouis Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 It will be fine. What starts the cycling process is the decomposition of the shrimp, which will happen whether it is cooked or uncooked. LOL . I don't know why, but it makes me laugh so much. I just picture you buying a shrimp cocktail at a nice restaraunt to take back to your tank. You should take the shrimp out, though. The live rock and sand will take care of the cycling process on their own. Just sit back and wait. Welcome to the hobby.lol
brandonlouis Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 I guess if they cooked it in something weird, it could hurt your LR. You didn't get it with cocktail sauce, did you?
ixtangxi Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 lol haha i know is stupid nope i just took a shrimp and boil it that it ...should be fine right..
Bobbozr2 Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 If I were you, I would take the shrimp out. When I started my nano a few months ago I used a shrimp as well. I quickly took it out when the majority of people on the boards told me that the live rock would cycle the tank on its own without the aide of the shrimp; on top of that, the shrimp absolutely stinks up the tank.
CollegeReef Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 why are people putting random foreign object in their tank... the live rock will cycle, just remeber to ads slowly when you buy livestock... once my roommate put a cocoa puff in my freshwater tank!!
ixtangxi Posted August 15, 2005 Author Posted August 15, 2005 so .. just want to know will my tank be ok ?
pjtech Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 You dont need the shrimp. I used a little freshwater fish food my 1st cycle but on my 2nd tank I just used live rock. Both times took about 2 1/2 weeks.
