brandonlouis
Hey Guys, Someone I work with told me about Nano Reefs the other day and totally got me interested. I don't own a big place and it is just what I have been dreaming of. For the last 3 days I have been reading threads and oogling tanks like a mad man. I even stopped by the library and picked up a couple recommended books. I AM HOOKED. It's pretty daunting learning all of the lingo (and for some reason I can't get the damn glossary to work) and seeing the amount of work involved, but still, I want to do this. I have some experience with freshwater, nothing crazy, just a couple small (20g) community tanks, but I do have a basic understanding of cycling. Now the big thing for me, is that a member of the armed forces (US Navy), I am not highly paid, plus I have a wife and a small child. I could definitely afford a 12g DX and throw a Mini-Jet 606 in it, and I have a friend who could probably help me out with some LR, I think. Anyway, with stock lights and a 606, how much fun could I have with this hobby? I think I have a pretty good idea of the monthly costs and can handle those, too. BUT Is it even worth my time? I am not Macgyver or anything, but if I get a decent description of the process, I am more than capable to do some low-budget DIY stuff. Anyway, encourage me, tell me no effing way, be honest. Weezer
Hi, from what I remember tigahboy had a 6g w/ that was stock for the most part and his looked awesome. Just mainly low light soft corals and such. Link to comment
lgreen
you can probably get a 20g tank, a pc light strip, and a maxi jet 1200 powerhead for the same price as that nano cube dx. Link to comment

I hear what you are saying, I guess I am attracted to the Nano for aesthetic reasons, but you are likely right. Thanks for shooting straight. ... what is the price on the light kit you are talkibg about? Link to comment
lgreen
weird, sorry, accidently deleted that post you quoted above somehow. anyway... probably around a $110-120 for the light, another 20-40 for the tank, and another 20 for the powerhead. Link to comment
brandonlouis
for a 20 gallon of primarily softies, what sort of GPH should I aim for? Additionally, I have read it is better to go with multiple small units, rather than one large. Do you agree? Link to comment
