funkpacket
3 weeks into my 5g tanks life and things are progressing quite smoothly. Plenty of nice algal growth, in fact too much for my 2 astreas and the bumble bee snail i have in there. I was wondering if there were any other snails i could put in the tank that would munch on the nuisance algae but also not have an appetite for coraline algae. Im just starting to get some really nice purple and teal coraline, and id hate for it to be a casualty to my tank cleaning efforts. thanks in advance Link to comment
Caesar777
Most snails don't generally do more than nibble coralline--Astraeas, nerites, ceriths, etc. are all good choices. Nassarius snails mainly eat detritus, and occasionally nibble film algae, but won't touch coralline. Mexican turbos are bigger and tougher, and would seem the most likely to bother the stuff. Teal, eh? Nice. Link to comment
Duke13
Most snails are good to go in terms of not harming your coraline. If you love your coraline, don't buy an urchin. Urchins will go to town on your coraline. However, they are actually more beneficial for your coraline in the long run because they spread the coraline spores when they poop. Link to comment
