MH neccisary in nano?

I was wondering, Acropora have high light demands but they look so nice, can one get away with using normal full spectrum flourescants by simply placing Acro's near the water surface?(not i have not bought any yet im just investigating)

I had some acropora under flourescants in my nanocube with 92watts of lighting, it did ok but I saw almost no growth, now that I have 175watt MH pendant it grows like crazy
