Chase
My LFS has a frogspawn. It has about 5 branches on it. But theres only one small head on it thats alive. Can I use a dremel and cut the living head off, or will it just die? Link to comment
abernier
if the head that is still in good health, then buy it and cut off the dead heads. Link to comment
Chase
OK. Can I cut it as close as I want, as long as I dont cut any flesh? Link to comment
Caesar777
Yep, any part of the calcareous branch. As long as the part you cut doesn't have flesh on it, then it's fine. You don't even need a dremel if you don't have one--I've used just my hands (if it's thin enough) or a wire-cutter. Link to comment
Chase
Also, It wasnt looking to good at the LFS. But sence I have cut it and placed it in my tank it has really shrunk up. It looks as though there is some calcium blades sticking through the flesh on the end. Is there anything I can do to help it out? Link to comment
winniebagel
Your remaining frag doesn't look so hot right now. To get it to rebound, make sure to provide it with mid to high light and place the frogspawn in medium water flow. Link to comment
Caesar777
Yeah, just leave it be--stressed corals don't like being moved around a lot. It just needs some time to recover, I bet. And as winnieb said, let it get good flow (not too much, though, or it won't open) and good lighting. How is your lighting compared to what it had at the LFS? Try to keep it similar--if they had it toward the top under PC's, and you have PC's too, then put it toward the top. If they had it under halides, all the more reason to have it toward the top. Chase
Ill check. My pictures seem like theres not alot of lighting, but its the cammera. Currently I have 2 13watt 50/50's under the hood. 10,000k and atinic03. Its a 2.5 gallon tank. So its got some good light. Link to comment
Caesar777
Should be good. Just leave him be--the polyps are just hidden, but they look to me to be doing well. (Not brown, faded, etc.--actually, they're still quite bright, shiny, and colorful, a good sign.) Link to comment
Chase
Good. Its opened up a little bit. But just the so slightly. How long might it take to open up? Ill get another pic of it tommorrow so you can see if theres much difrence! Link to comment
Caesar777
Could take a couple of days. Moving to a new tank and fragmentation both cause quite a bit of stress. Link to comment
