SCUBA BUZZ Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Hey folks i have a cracked eclipse 6 acrylic tank and some extra black aquarium silicone and a chunk of 1/4 inch plexiglass laying around. The cracked pane is the back one i was thinking i could cover the cracked pane withthe silicone and clamp the plexiglass to it giving it a pane on top of a pane i ahev a few questions before i waste my time and suplies and was hoping you could answer 1) do you think it will hold? 2) do you think it will look like shat? 3) do you think its worht my time given the dimensions of the hood and my chances of geting suficient lighting into it (i dont know if you've seen this hood or not but it sucks) thnaks folks btw it still holds watter right now but replaced it quickly with a glass tank for safety's sake
jstone624 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 how old is the tank? I had an Eclipse 6 a couple of years back for FW, it developed a small crack after owning it for about a year. I purchased it at a petsmart, called them up and spoke to a Mgr. I might have been lucky but they replaced it for me with no hassles. Its a popular tank and it's been around awhile, if you purchased it from a large chain as I did and haven't had it for a real long time, I would at least try calling the store and see what they could do for you.
SLOreefer Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 i dont htink it will wold up, those tanks are platic arent they? get a 10 gallon for what its worth
SCUBA BUZZ Posted July 30, 2005 Author Posted July 30, 2005 agreed the problem is i got the tank for free from a friend never personaly like acrylic have to be far too careful i find i prefer glass it has class i took the light fixture off the ecltpse hood and moulded it into the wood at the back of my canopy it now sits right above the awaterline and is super water tight im trying to fond an actinic 13watt bulb because t has white light right now but with actinic it would make the most incredible sunset because of all the shadows it makes in the water due to its positioning i cant wait to find that bulb
Daemonfly Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Won't hold over time. If you really want to repair it, then get some Weld-on and fix it properly. IMHO, dump it. They don't make good reef tanks and are a pain to get good lighting into. They make good low-light FW planted betta tanks though
