genuck Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 so, i need a surface skimmer in my 10g but have no room for a hob of any kind (tank is in a book nook) here's what i'm gonna try. 1 piece plastic flexible gutter elbow 2x3" square and stretches from 8 to 18". think large crazy straw. rio 90 ph i'm gonna cut notches in one end of the tube. and a small hole towards the bottom. i will place the ph outlet through the small hole held on by linking together some of the accesories from ph. then i'll place the tube in the back corner of the tank with the bottom pushed into the sand. then maybe i'll throw a bag of purigen and maybe some filter floss inside. do you guys think this will work? opinions please! :)
genuck Posted July 24, 2005 Author Posted July 24, 2005 ok. open bottom on sand bad idea. pump a wee bit stronger than i thought. so i placed an end cap underneath and i'll see how it works...
genuck Posted July 25, 2005 Author Posted July 25, 2005 woo hoo! tank looks fantastic today!!! no more scum and water is a lot clearer :D and it doesn't look too tacky either.
janasleah Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Let's see pics! How hard will it be to change filter floss/carbon? Sounds interesting...
genuck Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 i'll try to get some pics tonight. will have to wait on the evaporation thing. the tank is really bad about evap. so i just put a glass cover over it which is really helping. so it'll take a few days (hopefully) to see how fast it goes. i didn't glue anything together at all so it's very simple to take apart and/or move. for the floss i can just reach in an get it.
