BillyPrefect
Has anyone opened a typical plug-it-in wall timer, and rigged it to have two outlets on the side? One outlet would be normal and the other would just simply be the opposite of it. Daylights, nightlights, one box? Is it possible is all I'm asking before I spend 12 on the timer and 3 on the screwdriver. Link to comment
lucubrator
Depends on the design of the timer switch. Harbor Freight has timers with two outlets, but we'll never know if it's possible until someone opens one up. Link to comment
neanderthalman
It's doubtful, as the switch used in the timer will likely be a single-throw switch. In order for your plan to work, the timer would have to use a double-throw switch. Since a DT switch is generally more expensive than a ST switch, the manufacturer would probably used a ST switch. There is a chance however..... If a manufacturer made a timer that has two outlets, and they run on opposite schedules, then there has to be either two ST switches or one DT switch. One DT switch would be cheaper and smaller, so that's what they'd use. If that same manufacturer made a cheaper timer that had only one plug, it might be identical on the inside, all it's missing is the second plug. Cars are built that way. It's incredible how much wiring in your car is for options that you don't have. edit - What kind of screwdriver don't you have? Is it a torx or something? Link to comment
