Lauralai Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 hi i'm looking into getting a skimmer for my 29 gallon tank, currently it has 18 lbs of lr, 30 lbs of sand, 3 turbo snails, and 5 zebra hermit crabs. right now i have a top fin 40, and 10 as well as an aqua clear mini with the media removed from all for flow. lighting is 3 power compact 23 watt bulds, i can put a 4th in the 4th broke, as well as a 15 watt 50/50 strip light. i'm basically looking for the cheapest, good skimmer i can find, locally right now there are the following used skimmers i can get, i was wondering which you would get. a saline solutions skimmer with power head 201 (hagen) and optima air pump for 60 canadian, the person will even deliver to where i live which would me i wouldn't have to find a ride a sea clone skimmer, not sure on price yet i was told you make an offer, since i'm new to this whole thing i don't know what to offer yet or buy a new Coralife Superskimmer for 115, which is more than i would like to spend now, but i have a feeling better than the other 2 skimmers that i have listed that is is for now, so yeah any advice on which to get would be great
proraptor Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 Id get the coralife super skimmer....That what Im going to use...I only hear good things!
oogie Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 a saline solutions skimmer: Although air-stone driven skimmer can be surprisingly effective, I think your tank is little too big for it. I have tried every skimmer under the sun and I am using airstone skimmer for my 6 gallon tank. a sea clone skimmer: Many of the venturi skimmers put out lots of microbubbles. Also, sea clone can be effective but you need to do lots of modding including cutting to make it effective. Coralife Superskimmer: Although many will recommend AquaC remora, looks like this is your best bet!
ashburn Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 i would vote for remora, which is why im getting one for myself
digitalsteve Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 i have the coralife skimmer on my 20 and man does it pull out a lot of crap .... great deal for $115
TimR Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 I highly recommend the CCS65 for your tank. I have one on my 29 which replaced the SeaClown skimmer. The CCS pulls out in 1 day more than my SeaClown pulled out in a month. Once you get it broke in it is very easy to operate. Very little adjusting needed.
clown fish rule Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 i have a sea clone on my 10 and boy does it do a good job and for the sea clone 100 it is only $130 all tax in and for the 150 sea clone it is $145 all tax in
oogie Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 Originally posted by clown fish rule for the sea clone 100 it is only $130 all tax in Huh? More like $70 dollars. If it were $130, most def. not worth it!
proraptor Posted July 7, 2005 Posted July 7, 2005 Ive heard of people taking off their remoras and switching to the coralife super skimmers
clown fish rule Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 well i live in canada so... $ is higher than the usa
lgreen Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 the best bang for the buck would be the coralife super skimmer. i highly recommend aqua c remora skimmers though too.
oogie Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Originally posted by clown fish rule well i live in canada so... $ is higher than the usa Oh... gotchya!
JayReefer Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 How are the coralife skimmers for HOB? Is the pump really big? Would it take up a lot of room in my 10g?
JayReefer Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Check out this great deal http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/F6...9/Itemdy00.aspx
DLeAnnM Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I just ordered a coralife super skimmer 65 last week from big als online. It was $87.99 I think and came to $97.99 with shipping. I have ordered from big als before and they have great service. This will be my first skimmer and I have been looking for one reasonably priced for a long time. I was going to get the remora til I heard of this new one. The least expensive Ihave seen a remora is $164
JayReefer Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 How big is the pump on the skimmer? I heard its really big, I want to put one on my 10g.
DLeAnnM Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I have a 20L and I just started running the coralife super skimmer 65. The pump is bigger than my maxijet 606 and the bubble trap box is big too. Might be time to upgrade to bigger tank!!! I am still adjusting the skimmer however I keep getting full collection cups of water.
