What is the REAL Nano Cube Crack Rate?

Recommended Posts

steelhealr

My new cube arrived today. Although there are no full thickness cracks, there are 'defects' present. The last one was very hard to photo and describe. It looks like a hairline or almost faint crease in the glass and extends about 4 inches from the bottom of the tank, bottom left. Not sure how to classify this ...but....

12g DX

Up and running since April 2005

So far, no cracks. Although, admittedly, I haven't checked for them. Will check more thoroughly for any hairline issues. But I think it's OK.

I have a 24g DX, set up on 6-20-2005, no cracks as of yet.

I bought mine local, I wonder how many have cracked that were purchased from Ebay as compared to local fish stores. May be interesting.

Have you tracked by cube size, by any chance? Wondering if the failure rates are different based on what type each person has.

Bryant -

People are voting on the poll, but they aren't always providing data. That would be hard to figure out.

I still believe the REAL crack rate is significantly lower than what is being reported here. When I started this, I figured there must have been at least 1,000 Nano Cube owners on this forum. With 18 reported cracks at that time, you'd be looking at a crack rate of around 1.8%. I just don't know how to get everyone who owns a Nano Cube to respond.

On May 20th 2005 my brand new 24gal DLX cracked within 45 minutes of water,LR and LS.Returned it to the store. Picked up a new tank ONLY..kept the old hood, 'cause the second one had no LED's.

Have had no problems with the second one...I love it.

Thank you JBJ!

12GDX, latest model w/LEDs. No Mods except cassette.

Started May, 2005

Noticed crack today, July 6, 2005. It's at the top left, curved front corner. It's about 1" long and seems to be internal. I can't feel it at all. It starts at the black framing. I did a 2gal water change today and I wonder if that has anything to do with the crack?

It was purchased from an ebay seller. I've sent them a message to see if they are an authorized dealer.

No, I haven't. I'll bet there is a thread here somewhere with their contact info.

sNEIRBO - Maybe post in the Nano Forum over at Reef Central with a link to this thread to recruit some other Nano Cube owners that don't have exposure to this. I'm sure there are a lot of other reef forum sites out there too, but Reef Central is definitely the other big one.
