Reefwick Posted May 18, 2005 Share Posted May 18, 2005 has anyone had a problem with diatoms in their 12 gallon nano-cube dx? I've got them real bad and makes my tank look crappy. What should I do to get rid of them. I've tried stirring up the sand and they come right back. Currently I have three ceriths and two turbos as my clean up crew. Well anyways just want to know if anybody has had them as bad as i do and what they did to clean it up. thanks Link to comment
steelhealr Posted May 18, 2005 Share Posted May 18, 2005 Hi Reefwick...I had my two waves of diatoms on startup and they seem to be under control. Stirring up the sand won't do anything unless---> One thing I do to help reduce the load is,when turning off my heater and pumps for a water change, I do all my tank scraping first so the diatoms are suspended, then change out the water. I don't have ceriths or turbos, but, the margaritas and trochus snails I have seem to help as well....assuming that your lighting interval is not too long and params/phosphates are OK????
