reef n ale Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Hi guys, I just got back from the store where I buy my distilled water. They were out of stock! I bought this and was wondering what you thought of it. Maybe better? Is the label wording similar to other store bought RO water? Thanks! Rob
Hannahlyn Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 alot of times Ro drinking water has trace elements added back in like aquafina so I'd check on that
Brianc_4 Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 It probably will be ok. Just be careful with items labled drinking water ...sometimes they are nothing more than spring water, sometimes they have additives to it. But straight RO water will probably be ok. Just keep an eye out for algae blooms and what not, with it not being DI or distilled.
reef n ale Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 Thanks! They had bottles on the shelf, next to this one, that had the exact same label except that it said " minerals added for flavor" under the "drinking water" part. Now I'm concerned they are the same. Oh man, gotta go back out water huntin'! Rob
Pinchy Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 yep- i would NOT use that- if your shopping for store water- i would only look for distilled or completely purified RO w/ no additives keep in mind- distilled sometimes contains copper b/c of the distillation process in the machines they use- i would say this water should only be used for emergency purposes unless you know whats in it.
Brianc_4 Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 Ive been using distilled on the same system for three years now with no problem. But to back up pinchy it is best to give the manufacturer a call to make sure they do not use copper in the distillation process. Most are rather accomodating. However, I have had a few brands that could not tell me what they used in the process...so very simple, i dont use them.
reef n ale Posted April 17, 2005 Author Posted April 17, 2005 I went out and got the Walmart "purple cap" distilled. I've seen some threads on here mentioning that a lot of people are using it and having good luck. I'm going with that for today, and will try to call the local plant that bottles it tomorrow for more info. I can only assume that Walmart water is bottled regionally, since the plant listed on the label is about 50 miles from my town. Rob
imafishboy Posted April 17, 2005 Posted April 17, 2005 ...when i was using aquafina for about a week or so as topoff, i had a massive algae breakout. then i got redslime too. but now i use reg RO water and all is good.
