aquatraders? too good to be true?

i heard someone over on RC recommending aquatraders.com for a "quick and cheap" source for PC lighting.

as a matter of fact, i was browsing their site earlier this afternoon and came across this fixture:

http://www.aquatraders.com/index.asp?PageA...EWPROD&ProdID=4

and it's gotten me thinking of setting up my empty 2.5g tank i have sitting in the corner of my room. i don't know much about the ODYSSEA brand but for the most part, "you get what you pay for" ... but with prices as low as those, i think it's definitely worth a try. i'll be placing an order for the 11" light tomorrow... :)

yea, i think the point of it is to be "cheap" ... hence the "cheap" quality and the "cheap" price... as long as it works i'll be happy that i saved some money :)

sometimes a few bulbs alone will COST more than the setups! i'm gona experiment a lil w/my $20 on the 11" fixture and see how this thing really holds up :)

The only problem from what I can see is the bulbs have a possibility of breaking since they ship them inside of the fixture. The shipping prices are also horrendous like 25-30 dollars

I bought the 24" 65w uni strip for my fuge. When it came in I had to take the ballast apart because it wouldnt turn on. One of the wires was just loose. Could have happened in shipping. Overall I say for the price it is a good deal($40 shipped on ebay). Especially for a fuge. The quality is not quite up there with the bigger name brands. There is nothing that stands out yet as a defect or problem, but you can just tell it is made a little cheaper thus the cheaper price. I could see the ballast as being a possible issue in the future due to the semi flimsy construction of the plastic surrounding it. As far as looks go... I think it looks great. Comes with the fold up legs for easy maintenance. Overall a nice light for the price, but I do not think I would use one on an expensive show tank setup. I am happy with my purchase though.

I was also thinking about the T-5 HO setup, but I'm not sure about the bulb quality as well as the fact that they don't have individual reflectors for each bulb, which I hear is necessary. But even if you bought the tek reflectors for it, it would still be way cheaper than anywhere else.

well- your pretty much correct about the light they offer- i still want to get one in addition to my finnex to expand my actinic spectrum- these cheap HO lights are great for supplemental actinic lighting since your tank's inhabitants wont depend on this lighting for their health.

I bought an Odyssea 24" 135w from those guys and somewhat satisfied. The light itself is great, but the legs they gave me don't really fit all that well. Just my experience though.

all coralife fixtures are shipped with the bulbs in them.

Well that isn't too good considering there is no warranty for the free bulbs anyways.

If you have a good LFS or online retailer like Hellolights I don't see why it would be a problem. Everyone I talked to said if there was a problem ship it back and they would give you a new one
