SeaFish Posted October 21, 2002 Share Posted October 21, 2002 i had posted several threads about what i should do with the empty compartment on my built in wet and dry filtering system. But no one was able to provide me with a suggestion to what i can do with that. Currently this compartment is filled with about 5inches of live sand only. I was thinking this might creat a DSB (what do you experts think?). Then i thougt about it some more and would adding some live rock in this already 5 in of sand be beneficial also? I was thinking, increase live rock = increase filtration. Is this a good idea or bad idea? if u guys have any better suggestions i be happy to know also =) . thank you all in advance =) Link to comment

Unless you are going to add lights, don't use plant rock -just pick up some base rock (it is usually much cheaper). Base rock contains the same amount of bacteria, but isn't as pretty.
