dhenning25
Red Sea here also. Only thing I have used. 50# goes a long way with a 12g tank Link to comment
Sara
I use Instant Ocean. It works well, and is cheaper than other brands. So far I have had good luck with Instant Ocean, so I'm gonna keep buying it. Sara Link to comment

steelhealr
Here is everyone's big chance....Petco is offering free shipping on orders greater than $50. At about $10/gallon, you could get 5 gallons (10 water changes for a 24G NC), delivered to your home free. Sounds like a great deal if UPS doesn't bust it up. Caesar777
What do you all think of the nitrates present? I'm a little more concerned about the lead, arsenic, thallium, and antimony present... Link to comment
dhenning25
An excelent way to "stick it" to Petco. It is actually $9.99 for 5 gallons of Catalina water (shipping weight of each container 45#!!) 6 x 9.99 = 59.95 Shipping = Free Shipping weight 270# Shiping cost to ship to nearest zipcode (residential) $68.58 The would lose $8.63 just on shipping alone Link to comment
tMoney
Oh man, I wish I would've seen that free shipping. I just drove 45 mins to pick up 4 boxes of this stuff. Oh well, It's cool anyway. Link to comment
ktownhero
Hmmm. I might just do the catalina water simply because it would be easy. What is the SG of the stuff? 1.026? Link to comment
tMoney
the one i checked is 1.026 and artarmon's was 1.026, so I'm assuming it is usually 1.026 Link to comment
arbee
I took advatage of this free shipping special and bought 4 gallons and a couple other things I needed. Darn near gave the UPS guy a hernia. I heard him grunting getting the boxes out of the truck. After unpacking each box, I now have a lifetime supply of bubble wrap too:) Link to comment

artarmon42
Hmmm... I just bought 8 boxes for a total of $79.92 (plus tax of $6.59). But my Shipping and Handling fee of $171.49 (for 360 lbs) was eliminated because of the free shipping coupon! Woohoo! Link to comment

Here are the results of the tests I ran: SG = 1.026 pH = 8.4 Ammonia = 0 ppm Nitrite = 0 ppm Nitrate = 0 ppm Phosphate = 0 ppm Alk = 9.3 dKH Calcium = 440 ppm Link to comment

DeeZeal
When I first set up the tank I bought a small batch of Oceanic and I must say it is not good. The calcium levels are off the scale (520+) and the dKH is way too low (4-5). Gonna try Tropic Marin or something else next. Link to comment

I presume it must be 0.28ppm because my Salifert test came back as close to zero as my eyes can detect, even at the "low range" setting. Link to comment
dhenning25
1mg/L = 1ppm 0.28mg/L = 0.28ppm Link to comment
artarmon42
At "low range" the Salifet test would see 0.2. My test came back as 0. Not here to argue about the "true" nitrate level. Just here to clarify what I found with my box of water Link to comment
