What do think about a 36"light on a 30''

I need to get a new light for my 29g. I have a 24'' corallife sitting on my glass top right now. I had gone from a 20g to 29g and never changed my lights yet. I can't afford mh right now and I'm thinking of the 30'' corallife. But then I was thinking I could go with the 36'' for the 92w bulbs instead of 65w. Has anybody every bought a longer light fixture than the tank and what do you think about it? I need new lights soon.

I've seen it done with 2x55 on a 10G tank. I think he made a hood to keep the excess light in. I don't see a problem with doing it as I was going to put a T5 36" light over my 20L.

you don't have to put it right on a glass canopy, you could get mounting legs and since the mounting legs just slide to where ever(however far towards the center) you need them (I think) you could just have it up a bit and have it hang over 3" on either side.

IMO do yourself a favor. If you want MH, save and/or buy a used set up from this site - there are a lot of helpful people selling good products here (thanks ReeferJones). I made the switch and am much happier with the results; and so are my critters.

Thank you all for your opinions. I might go for it. I'm thinking that I will hold off on the mh for now. I would like to have a nice setup in the future when I have more money for it all. For now I'll have to go simple. Plus, the more lights (hoods)I have, the more tanks I can set up
