nofriendsbz3
I have a 12g Nano Cube and i took the bio balls out. I was wondering if i should take out the ceramic rings also. I have read alot of people taking all of the stock filtering out, but i am confused as to where to put the live rock rubble and if this will make my tank cycle again. My tank has already finished cycling and i have a pair of True Percula clowns in there. My nitrates are high and i was wondering if its because i still have the sponges and the ceramic rings back there. All of my other levels are great... Can anyone please help and explain what i should do with the stock filter please?? thank you -Nick- Link to comment
vyger
IMO...Take out the ceramic rings and if you want to leave the sponge in there you'll have to clean it ....make sure you clean it often say once a week or more so it doesn't become a nitrate problem...not sure where you put the rubble cause i don't have a cube but I'm guessing in the back compartment where the bioballs were.. ...I'm sure someone who has a cube will chime in and let you know... divelement
Hi Nick, I have the 12 dx and I since I have my tank set up as a reef tank I took out everything but the pump. I put about 2 lbs of Live cured ruble in the middle slot and put my heater in the right slot with the return pump. I also added a mini 606 to the left side to create current. havnt yet done anything with the left side slot yet, was going to put a dsb in that but decided not too. Your lfs probably has cured live ruble that you buy in put in there with out causing your tank to recycle. (just keep it it wet all the way home ) luck Link to comment
nofriendsbz3
thank you guys for your replies.... How long have you had your tank up for divelement?? Have you had any problems with just the live cured rubble back there as the filter?? If i take out the Sponges and the Ceramic rings then will all of my beneficial bacteria be gone with them too? thank you -Nick- Link to comment
DCDeacon
If you haven't had your live rock in there for long, you could take out the ceramic in little bits until it's completely gone. But, your rock and sand in your system are going to handle most of your filtration anyway. If you're just starting to cycle or setup your Nano, go ahead and pull everything out that you don't want now. Link to comment
