i use actinic for veiwing because it looks really nice and its more lit up....but for moonlights i use LEDs because they arent as bright and radiate from a single spot, just like the moon.

so you mean that you have a separate actinic light that you turn on at night to view you tank and also separate led lights that you have on all the time??? that sound good since the price of either isn't too high. thanx

i was thinking of adding the 9w actinic. do you think that will look ok? i can always dim it by blocking some of the light. how many LEDs will i need? 1? 2? thanx so much for everyones help.

When i was on a tighter budget i used the hood light from a standard 10g and bought a 15w actinic flourescent bulb and that was all under 20 from petco. And for my LEDs i just went to the car shop and bought some 5.99 accent interior lighting (2 in one pack) and hooked it up to an AC/DC converter from walmart which was about 7.99.....

LEDs are on 24/7, actinic is on only when i place it on.

They get a nice shimmer of blue waves all over the ceiling and floor~
