afiser
I can't decide if i should put rock in the back of my nano cube. if i decide to do this could anyone tell me what you do and where you get rock rubble. Link to comment
nalbar
you can usually get rubble from your LFS. but you can also make some with a large piece of LR and a hammer. make sure you cure it first. personally i just tore out the back section on my cube. the plastic divider comes right out. it makes the tank bigger and makes it easier to aquascape. nalbar Link to comment
newbiecarlz
i had the same questions when i started. ive got rock in the back of my nano cube. the reasons that you do it is just to get more LR in the tank for filtration purposes, and since you have all those compartments in the back u might as well use them for something hey?! also because live rock is much better for biological filtration than the bioballs and ceramic things that come with the cube (LR supports anerobic bacteria as well as aerobic bacteria - bioballs only support aerobic) all you need to do is pull out the bioballs/rings and put your live rock rubble in. If the tank is already established you might want to do this gradually over a period of time or you could get an ammonia spike. I got my rubble from LFS (they have a box of small bits of LR) but i guess you could break up a bigger piece if you cant buy it. it dosent need to be nice fancy corralline encrusted stuff, and you dont want anything photosynthetic growing on it cause it wont get any light in the back compartments. also you want to consider if its cured or uncured because you dont really want it to cause a spike, but if its a new tank with no livestock yet then you dont really have to worry. hope that helps! also do a search because this has been asked many times Link to comment
