PieMan2k
Hello! Im an old member (2015) looking to get back into the hobby. I tore down my last tank in 2022 and haven't set one back up yet. In that time, I commissioned into the United States Air Force as a pilot flying the C-130J. My job requires me to move every 3-4 years; and my next move date is sometime in May of next year. It's about an 8-hour drive for this upcoming move. Realistically is it a feasible thing to do and subject my system to every 3-4 years? I don't want to nuke my tank every time I have to move and if that's the case, I might just sell everything each move and rebuy livestock unless it has a personal attachment. I'm planning on setting up auto dosing and ATO stuff as I may be gone for a week or two at a time unless deployed when I'm going on deployment in which case I could be gone for ~6months. Does anybody have experience moving systems or with how feasible it is to have a nice tank with the Military constraints? I will be using a JBJ NANO-RL20, so the tank isn't going to be massive to move and there's no hardline plumbing. If I wanted to go bigger I'd stay with the AIO category I feel at this point. seabass
Thank you for your service. It's certainly possible to break down a tank every few years; some people like to do that occasionally (for cleaning), even without moving their tanks. A move takes planning, but it's doable. There are a number of decent threads which might give you some ideas. Moving can be a hectic time, so you'll have to prep everything ahead of time. Quote Link to comment
PieMan2k
No problem; thanks for paying for my fuel bill! That’s the idea is to plan it all out. I got the soon to be fiancé on board with having a tank last night . (she is the one begging me to set it up) I’ve told her how much maintenance/work it can be, especially with moving and she is still happy so it seems like I’m going to go through with the process! do you happen to remember the threads about moving tanks or should I just search moving on the general threads tab? 2 hours ago, seabass said: Thank you for your service. seabass
You'll probably want to read a few and take some ideas from each. I prefer searching Nano-Reef straight from a browser, versus using Nano-Reef's search tools. site:nano-reef.com tank move Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I've done a handful of tank moves in the past (although none more than 30 minutes away). But think of it like overnight shipping; most everything will be upset for awhile, but should recover just fine. Quote Link to comment
