DEL 707
I have a 56l tank with no sump or weir and I have plenty of gunk on the water surface. I tried a surface skimmer attachment for my Fluval canister filter but it was too big and long for the tank. I'm tempted to get a little surface skimmer, such as the Eheim Skim 350. Can anyone recommend a good unit, small and more importantly, quiet. The tank is in the bedroom. Quote Link to comment
belabaru
the Eheim is nice, but it is a pain in the ass to clean. Basically, you have to take the whole thing out of the tank to do it. I have got this one, but I am EU based. Quote Link to comment
Fnard
What exactly is too long? The tube? If so, trim it down. If the skimmer cap, the solid section should be right below the surface and the teeth can protrude up in the air as much as needed. If none of that works, just aim a powerhead at the surface to create surface agitation. That should help the problem. Quote Link to comment
inTank
Those canister filter intakes are about as small as they come You only need the top of the surface skimmer. Adjust what you have or cut down an attach the tooth top to your intake somehow and set at the proper water level. Then keep that water level consistent with an Auto Top Off Quote Link to comment
