Savage Henry
I’ve started to add the clean up crew from my holding tank. Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
I’ve got a lot of algae growing now and have now added additional limpets (about 50), several amphipods and a few large bristle worms. the Chaeto, excess live rock and Seachem media in my holding tank have been keeping that’s tanks water really nice. But I am slowly decommissioning that tank. The large bundle of Chaeto will be added to the display tank - I’ll probably keep it in a netted container in the display tank for a while as I haven’t got the sump running yet. I am going to treat the Seachem media as I did the live rock in this tank (bleach several times, then brief dilute HCl, then lots of freshwater washes, then salt water). I then add it to the sump and get that revved up. Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
Here is a friendly bristleworm. I got many bristles on my fingers from these. Next time I’ll wear gloves. Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t transfer spionid worms from the old tank. They are delicate and best transferred on live rock, but I don’t want to place any untreated live rock from the holding tank into this tank. Quote Link to comment

The one thing that you should avoid at all cost would be aiptasia, but I would really avoid all the above myself, lol. 1 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
Lots of algae growth. I don’t mind as I would like the algae to chew up any nutrients and minerals that might be leaching from the rocks after the treatment I gave them. I am about to add Chaeto to an enclosure in the display tank. I hope the Chaeto starts to take over what the algae is mopping up. Once I get the sump started again, the Chaeto will go there. I have yet to decide on a light for the sump. I have also treated the old Seachem media I have with dilute bleach and now am rinsing it with tap water. I’ll soak it in several tubs of NSW before I add it to the sump. Interestingly, I haven’t used for sump for two months or so, but had left it filled with saltwater. There are heaps of pods in there. A pity as I am about to remove that water (it was used to rinse the rock after treatment). Anyway, there’s plenty of pods in the display to begin a new population in the sump. I am about to sell my two green anemones, but was considered by keeping one in the display with the current one I have. I am wondering if the display is two small for two btas? 1 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
Just added my twelve year old female clownfish and after 15 minutes or so it seems to have accepted the new male clownfish. I hope they host the current bta otherwise I will add the old green bta the female has been hosting for a number of years. 2 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
I spotted my female clownfish in the bta for the first time today. The little male didn’t jump in. It was only brief and now the clownfish are far from the anemone. I take it the female is testing the bta out or developing an immunity to it??? It was great to see the interest and I hope it works out. 3 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
The algae growth is continuing, but I removed some with a toothbrush and then siphoned some off. Once the sump is running I’ll be able to scrub some off and it’ll be caught in the filter sock. i have now added a small Tunze skimmer and a netted containing with Chaeto. Also added two hydnophora (one plating and one branching) frags and a Galaxea frag. I haven’t glued them yet in place, but where I have them is where they’ll probably stay. My green hammer are expanding quicker than I expected. I may not put any corals around them as I think they are going to need the room between them. the clowns are now hosting the anemone, but I gave yet to see the young male in the anemone. But, the pair have been exploring the hole in the rock and I wouldn’t be surprised if they breed soon. 2 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
My galaxea just wants to say hello to my hydnophora 1 Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
That picture is deceptive as the galaxea sweepers are a few inches from touching the hydnophora. I wonder though who would win? I had a bta once retreat from a hydnophora. Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
Added a few small ricordia from my holding tank. They are not glued, but sitting in the grooves protected from the current. Quote Link to comment
Savage Henry
I cleaned the rocks with a toothbrush and used putty to bond two of the rocks together - for safety. I should be able to break the rocks apart and the putty should remain to support each other (to make it easy to remove the rocks). 1 Quote Link to comment

colormegone
A type of hydroid related to jellyfish. They must have come in on one of your frags. Quote Link to comment
