Seb8316 Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 This thing has been in on my hermit crab’s shell and in my gsp. I did my best trying to find it on the web. Can anyone tell me what this is and if its harmful? Second pic i didnt mean to put sorry Quote
Parapodia Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Most likely a Vermetid snail. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermetidae https://reefbuilders.com/2023/05/11/how-to-get-rid-of-vermetid-snails/ Quote
Seb8316 Posted June 16, 2024 Author Posted June 16, 2024 This one moves like a slug. Are you sure? Quote
Parapodia Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 If it is the same animal moving between the gsp and the hermit crab shell, then no, not a vermetid. Stomatella is another type of snail often found in reef tanks. It differs from the usual snail anatomy in that it only has a sort of half shell on the top of its body and could easily be mistaken for a slug. https://www.aquaticcommunity.com/SwSnails/Stomatella.php Quote
mcarroll Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 I dunno if those "antennae" look like what you find on Stomatella: vs IMO it looks like a nudibranch/sea slug of some kind.....a better photo would help tho! Quote
mcarroll Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Kinda looks like these, but I bet there are a lot of lookalikes.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorunna_parva Quote
mcarroll Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 It would be really cool if it was this guy... https://aquariumbreeder.com/costasiella-kuroshimae-care/ ...although the look of yours would imply that yours might be starving since it has no algae to eat. (I didn't read that whole article yet, so check it out.) Quote

Snow_Phoenix Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 Am I the only one who thinks the tiny hitchiker nudi is adorable? I mean, he has tiny cute black 'ears'! (I'd keep him, but I might be biased here) 1 Quote

One of them has been going in and out of my struggling gsp. This picture was taken a while back Quote
andre Posted June 23, 2024 Posted June 23, 2024 Looks like a nudibranch to me. The antennae are the giveaway. I would remove it from the tank. Quote
