Mohawk Mafia
Morning all, Thought I drop a quick line to say hello to all members and introduce myself. The name is Ryan and I have a thing for creating sustaining living things. I have 1 vivarium 18x18x24 that houses a crested gecko morph named Fabio, because he's so good looking, I have 2 terrariums that house millipedes and Isopods, 2 breeding enclosures for Rubber Ducky & Powder Blue Isopods, 2 nano fresh water jars/tanks 1 for a Betta and the other for a White Cloud fish and 2 Cherry Red Shrimp, I have a current build of a 18x18x36 tall paludarium rain forest that should be done in the next month or so. Its unclear what I will house but it will be cool. I'd attach files but I'm not sure it's appropriate for this forum. All of my enclosures are stuffed with living plants, and fully automated with lights/heat and humidifiers where needed, and bioactive soils/drainage layers. Pretty cool stuff. So obviously the next logical step is creating a coral reef. So I went and bought (to be delivered in about 2 weeks) the Red Sea Max Nano Peninsula AIO 26.5 gallon reef tank with stand. 😁 I also added the Nero 3 pump and the Aqua Ultra Violet sanitizer (the hang on the back type). Still need to pick up the heater and Hanna testers and continue researching. Well that's about it for me, going to post some tester/heater questers in the other forum Be cool to each other Ryan 4 Quote Link to comment

Given your interest for creating sustainable living things, I think a reef tank will prove to be very rewarding and yet potentially the most challenging experience! It is going to be great! 9 hours ago, Mohawk Mafia said: o I went and bought (to be delivered in about 2 weeks) the Red Sea Max Nano Peninsula AIO 26.5 gallon reef tank with stand. 😁 I also added the Nero 3 pump and the Aqua Ultra Violet sanitizer (the hang on the back type). The Nero 3 is a popular choice for powerhead, and your are already ahead of the game with a UV sterilizer. I guess the next step would be to determined what you want to house in the tank (fish, type of coral) and begin researching how'd you like to light it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crawford_T
Welcome! Your other systems sound super rad. I have no experience myself with those types but I have a buddy that was pretty into crested geckos and others. I have the cube version of the tank you’ve purchased. Looking forward to seeing what you create. Quote Link to comment
Mohawk Mafia
Thanks for the welcome guys I appreciate it. I will start a journal as soon as I start to cycle the tank. 47 minutes ago, Airedale.Reef said: I guess the next step would be to determined what you want to house in the tank (fish, type of coral) and begin researching how'd you like to light it. Not completely sure yet, really what I want to see is color and movement in the tank. Lighting comes with the set up, its the Red Sea Reef LED50. I'm sure this isn't the best but not the worst either, so I'm hoping it's the middle of the road. Some of the corals I've seen that I like are Zoanthids, Euphyllia, some Duncan. I also like some of the mushroom species I've seen online. As for fish, I can't go wrong with a Ocellaris clown fish or one of the versions I've seen. But I would also like Purple fire fish, Starry or Lawnmower Blenny, and maybe a Royal Gramma Basslett. I want coral to be the focal point of the tank with the fish secondary. Still tons of research to do and pet store visits to be made. Be cool to each other Ryan 3 Quote Link to comment

Crawford_T
Those are great coral choices to start with, literally what I added first haha. As for the Red Sea light, seems to me it’ll be perfectly fine for what you’re planning on. Definitely start a journal so we can all follow along. 1 Quote Link to comment

(within 1hr drive) I have 1 LFS, OCD Reefs, its where I bought my tank, just got back from there, out of stock for the heater & all in one tester. Bought that direct from Hanna. Patience is the one thing I have learned from all my reading, plus projects like this seem to increase my ZEN mood 1 Quote Link to comment
