Shifumi, 70 gallons of water

After moving a lot and having to take down my last takes and sell them off. I finally have a safe secure space with no international moves in sight ! That means it’s time for my dream tank, having mostly kept 3-6 gallon reef tanks in the past, my largest being a 25 gallon cube . It’s time for a tank so big and massive( to me) that I do not see my self upgrading or getting another tank!

I purchased this tank that is Custom made and designed my a girl my age! At her reef store. It’s 90x55x55 cm or roughly 36 by 21 by 21 in American

by far my single most expensive reef .-. My wallet is crying . they came in last night to install and set up and move the tank to my apartment! It’s not finished yet though. The staff will be back on the 6th to fully set it up.

I am going to be using a mixture of dry and live rock , I’m allways a fan of live rock since I feel that it adds many beneficial bacterial strains as well as cute hitch hikers. So far the tanks number 1 priority is. to have an easy to care for system . Automating what I can. And keeping livestock limited to soft corals and LPS with a group of smalller fish , think of it like a nano but on the bigger side. And yes there will be clown fish .-. My gf wants clownfish

I plan to add a small table here to help hide cords and to toss my laptop on.

it comes with a rather large sump and this will be my first time running an aquarium with a sump, I allways ran my tanks with out one and didn’t have any issues. But I hear good things about them . Time will tell. 494DF44E-8730-46D2-AB7C-72531512E050.thumb.jpeg.c91614ba170f8ee62ac8f2037be10b04.jpeg

He helped hook up all the pipes and set up the sump , how helpful 😄

so many equipments! Didn’t realize how much boxes it takes to make a flawless reef 789E0A30-B46D-4AD9-B086-11D714F30B8C.thumb.jpeg.54fb35f70acc87809fa2f6999ca01dcf.jpeg

tank in it’s final position! It looks so good, live rock arrives next week as does the lights and the staff that will help set everything up. Can’t wait but am also in no rush, I unfortunately caught a cold but thankfully it’s not an allergic reaction to a fish tank invading my space . Expect more updates and photos around the 6th

For some reason I thought it was the 6th. But it’s actually 4th that the guy comes. He’s here now and he brought my protein skimmer 😄 12D153FE-8F2B-431E-B109-53DB5498ED9B.thumb.jpeg.a075ccc2201952b6db63337a269f4382.jpeg

this is the sump in dumpy sumpy glory. it’s my first time dealing with a tank large enough to consider a sump on. Hopefully this layout works well. The left corner is the ATO and is freshwater375602F0-A1CF-4029-83C7-9C27ED800441.thumb.jpeg.766d3e39bbf75d07874640550425cbcb.jpeg

i heard you guys enjoy a clean layout of professionally tapped down wires and gadgets. I am starting to see why. I feel extremely organized. Stay tune for updates next week

Great stuff! Nice aquarium. Whats the water volume?

Including the sump it’s about 100g or so . Main display volume is something like 71g

The live rock has arrived. Since I’m based in a tropical/ subtropical country. The rock is super fresh shipped from the warmer part of Taiwan ! , I decided to cure it in the tank. Since there is absolutely nothing in there atm. The rock has loads of algae I hope atleast some survives. Many many bristle worms , several mini serpent stars, other worm like creatures, an isopod, two tiny red crabs. Atleast from what I saw while unpacking. 4FA9764B-12E4-49FA-8AA1-CCC2DBFA7E36.thumb.jpeg.8813624156c2ce0145c00cd7aefc0ae3.jpegRock is here! 5DA4C1E0-98CE-4FF8-A531-C090AA9EDD34.thumb.jpeg.3a0785f52d4834fad6bd01c6c7f89388.jpeg

the rock has been opened now! It’s smaller bits than I expected. 0D567B70-7782-4F65-A7CD-8A6A447E60BA.thumb.jpeg.278f6992e509a8bd6b6ccca52e045339.jpeg

initial layout ! I feel I did a fairly good job of making a pile out of tiny rocks and tossing the large ones on top of it 9ED36D4E-8BCC-4105-A92D-BB53148FB18D.thumb.jpeg.f636575f30d5f4b9f81bd9e73a4152a8.jpeg

with lights and some afternoon sun !

small update on the tank, the water is clearing up now! Hurray. I estimate that the cycle will finish after the 28th most likely . And I will be away on business for a month so most likely will start stocking the tank when I come back around April 25. However by then the cycle will be very cycled and I do have a friend who will come over top off ATO while I’m gone 4701408F-6B75-4C43-B4B2-3C47658731AD.thumb.jpeg.c6ae188fac4045de676760daf08bc64d.jpeg

Small update! When I started testing ammonia was deep deep blue 5.0+ now we are quickly down to barely any ! CC7E87A8-0C3F-412A-BE3B-27D34A6FAEA0.thumb.jpeg.4a15fcec9b1c5b74a23d557f7eaf0249.jpegE58977A1-DF6B-4F3D-8F7B-94AEA46B13E9.thumb.jpeg.8d2760839a055df0f8cbd45623f96479.jpeg

looks a bit more blue due to the reef light . Tank is maturing . I saw some cool hitch hikers, love live rock for that. Some of the macro algae is regrowing and I’m happy to let it grow no need to have an algae free reef. Loads of coralline on the rocks stopped dieing and starting showing signs of growth,  stringy hairy algae all over the place . I saw 3 aptasia I have to remove later , all in all. Life is going well for the pseudo reef. I’m getting ready for my trip back to USA . So for around a month I’ll be in cali . Meaning that I can not attend to the tank. But it will be extra cycled and probably algae over grown by the time I am back, I will have a friend come over and refill ATO, check skimmer,  and just make sure the tank isn’t broken. While I am gone . I expect algae madness when I’m back , but can finally start stocking it once back too!
