Been dosing phosphates for 3 days now and still not getting any readings. Last time I dosed, I got the level I wanted within 2 days. Not sure why is taking longer now. Maybe it's being used up quickly by the algae? Anyhow, I'm pretty sure what I'm seeing are dinos....again hence why I started with phosphates again with I'll keep them up this time and not let them drop to zero again. Quote Link to comment

What do you test phosphate with? A microscope would help to identify the type of dinos. For some types you need a UV for others you don't. I had small cell amphidiniums. You could try pods (a lot) and phyto every night. Some also recommand sodium sillicate 40% to create a diatoms bloom to out compete the dinos. I went with Spongexcel myself. Quote Link to comment
1st reef
Will be dosing 0.5 ml of h2o2 every day. Keeping phosphates up and crossing fingers lol Quote Link to comment

1st reef
Should've been more clear. Phosphates is what's going to get rid of dinos. H202 is for other algae. I'll keep monitoring Phosphates to make sure they don't get too high. 1 Quote Link to comment

1st reef
Is it possible it's cyano? Quote Link to comment

Kindanewtothis
I'm not an experience reefer but I dealt with dinos (ended up using dino-x with success) but you need diversity. Like I said pods and phyto. 1 Quote Link to comment

Also yeah, it looks like dinos but a microscope would be good. Get some in a cup, mix it and place it under your lights. If it regroups you got dinos. Quote Link to comment

For now I have 6 nassarius snails, 1 turbo, 9 hermits. Just wanting to point out that nassarius snails don’t actually eat algae. They eat other proteins before it can be broken down into other stuff I cant remember Quote Link to comment
1st reef
Update. Turbo snail is gone. Maybe pistol shrimp killed it?? Not sure but I only have its empty shell. Lost the hammers. I have carbon and floss as filter media. I keep phosphates up by dosing . I removed the rocks and brushed off as much as algae as I can. Substrate looks cleaner but I think there's still dinos present. Could it be that instill have dinos with phosphates up to 0.3 0.5? Weekly 15% wc. Quote Link to comment

My pistol most likely killed my cleaner shrimp and sometimes grabs my snails to use as walls but I usually see them climbing out of the cave. I never saw it attacking my snails. Quote Link to comment
1st reef
I see it grabbing the hermits to build his caves but they always escape lol. 1 Quote Link to comment

sadie
I just got some turbo snails and they started working on my algae right away! Huge difference. 2 Quote Link to comment
1st reef
My problem here is that I have a pistol shrimp and last turbo didn't last. Quote Link to comment
