After a very long hiatus (8yrs to be exact), I’ve decided to rekindle one of my favorite hobbies. Reef tanks.. In the past I’ve had everything from biocubes, to 40 gallon octogon, 75 gallon rimless and a 90 gallon.

This was my bio cube before I parted ways with the hobby..

This time around, I wanted something simple but elegant and I have hopes of it blooming into a eye dropping mini mix reef tank. After doing a lot of research, I went with the Waterbox brand over the IM fusion pro series. There’s something about miniature tanks that catches my eye. A lot has changed with equipment and technology since I last owned a tank. But I’m excited to be a nano reef owner again.. Patients is the key in this hobby…stay tuned.

Welcome back!

The tank looks beautiful and the equipment choices are spot on. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

If you are looking for a setup for the Prime then BRS Tv on YouTube have a video exploring this. They came up with a spectrum which almost matches the Radion AB+ spectrum for growth. I run it on my Prime and growth on everything from softies to SPS has been great.

Question:

I’m undecided on which filtration I want to use. I have the intank media basket and the kraken filter cup holder.

The only media I plan on using is pretty much is a filter floss and chemipure elite regardless of which one I choose. The media rack gives options for multiple media if chosen, the filter cup pretty much doesn’t due to the size.

With the media rack, I would have to keep the heater in chamber 2 next to my skimmer. With the filter cup, I can place the heater in chamber 1 underneath it.

There are beautiful systems on this forum running the media rack, however the only way to use the rack is to remove the stock filter sock brackets. If I remove the brackets then the Kraken filter cup is useless.

Any suggestions…6DDC5942-F36E-4F7A-B283-04E1A331FDEE.thumb.jpeg.4dab377cc5ec257233f85f52935e75cf.jpeg

I found a schedule from a reefer with the same tank. I may play around with the settings to my liking and needs once I have some livestock.

Finally my surge protector arrived. Now I can do a lil cord management and make things a lot neater underneath. Ugh, I forgot how expensive this hobby can be with all the extra lil things that’s required to make reef keeping more convenient and easier..5F5F8758-84D4-4D90-B1E6-514DECC1814C.thumb.jpeg.44aaed1b05084932315f7fa5d0229005.jpeg

So… as I was preparing water to cycle my tank, my RODI unit started leaking from multiple connections. I never had this problem when I had a reef tank yrs ago. I’m assuming it must have been when I replaced all the cartridges and membrane. It’s a real old unit as I bought it used over 10yrs ago. So   I started doing some research on how to fix it and I came upon a used but great condition unit on eBay for $66. I gambled on it and it arrived today as well. It appears to be in great shape, I just need to purchase a di resin cartridge. hopefully I have no issues.
Here are pics of the older unit and the unit I just purchased.

This is the settings I currently have my AI prime. I believe this is only at 19 watts. I may have to adjust it when I stock it with corals. I want to see if I can rent a PAR meter just for piece of mind and future coral placement.

Also is the setting for my Nero3. I decided to keep it on random mode at very low intensity.

Looks alot better tham mine!

And mine!  I haven't figured out what to do with mine yet, so they're just sort of sitting on the side of the tank looking ugly.

I’m on day #7 of cycling my tank. I’ve also been adding 3ml of Microbacter7 each day. I noticed today I’m starting to see what appears to be a white stringy substance coming off a couple rocks. I did a 1.5 gallon WC today. Any info if this substance is normal during the cycling process?? 071CD293-9CC9-46BC-99A0-C1FDCAF1AE09.thumb.jpeg.801b623b77b506dcae1ce6f92b88893f.jpeg

I received my lid from Kraken Reef. It looks neat and slim. Kinda indecisive if I totally like it tho. I only bought it bc I want to put a pair of designer clownfishes and I don’t want them to end up on the floor.

I know my tank has only been cycling for 8 days and I’ve been adding roughly 2.5-3ml of Microbacter7 everyday. But I decided to test my water. API test kits aren’t the most accurate but at least it can provide some sort of parameters.

PH - between 7.8 and 8.0

Amnonia - between 0 and .25

Nitrite - 0

Nitrate - 5 and 10F4393086-A5C4-47BA-8AB0-312A557460E3.thumb.jpeg.92441da1a36355ac78e38d5f36ed3fc4.jpeg

Nice setup!  I really like to combination and colors of coral.  Also, this setup is eerily familiar to mine: waterbox 10 on a white jbj stand, nero 3 and a white ai prime on the black hard mount.
