Hermit shells

Is it okay to use sea shells you find at the beach for hermits? I struggle to guess sizes when ordering them online and buying multiple packs to get a couple of usable ones isn’t very cost effective so I was considering collecting my own, has anyone else had this isssue or had any luck with shells from the beach?

Check local rules about collection, but suspect it should be fine @Minireeftank.

 

Consider soaking them in saltwater for awhile, before introducing them to your tank, to ensure there's no detritus or decaying matter stuck inside the shell.

Ooh I love hermits! Yeah just rinse them well & dry them off and make sure no other critters are still hiding inside. Best of luck
