Green Algae Bloom

Ever since I added a metal halide light over my 30 tall, I have been dealing with alot of green algea in the tank, in places it is causing bubbles of algea.

I use distilled water for the tank and do regular water changes. What things can I do to reduce the algae in the tank, I have added a powerful power head and this has helped some, but still am having problems with the algae.

Are there tests I should run in my water that are ideal for this algae buildup?
