seabass
I don't want anybody to forget that sumps and multiple connected tanks are welcome. Consider two of these connected together, or one used as a sump, or a cheap food container used as its sump (hidden within a stand). Sumps can make for a super clean looking display. seabass
I find food containers to quite handy for various purposes. They could make a decent sump for a 5 to 7 gallon tank. You can usually find them in a capacity of about 1.5 to 2 gallons (some with a handle, some without). 1 Quote Link to comment

seabass
Heaters: You'll probably need either a 25W to 50W heater. You'll find various sizes, so make sure they fit your display, filter, or sump. Some are always on and require a temperature controller such as an Inkbird Aquarium Temperature Controller, some have a pre-set thermostat, and others have adjustable thermostats. However, a temperature controller is a good precaution for any heater, as it helps prevent stuck on failures from cooking your nano. I'll post a few different options. seabass
Pumps and Powerheads: For most mixed reefs, I'd suggest around 20 to 30 times total turnover in the display. So for a 5 to 9 gallon display, that might be somewhere from 100 to up to 270gph of flow. Non-coral tanks can get by with as little as 10 times turnover in the display. seabass
Lighting: For a small tank, you can usually get by with a relatively inexpensive light (the possibilities seem endless). For LEDs, you'll want to make sure that they are a typical reef spectrum. You might also check their power consumption (watts), as well as how much area they cover. These PAR38 bulbs are a possible inexpensive option for a small tank (like 12" across): ABI Tuna Blue LED Bulb Coral Reef Optimized Spectrum PAR38 (available in either 12 or 23W) KINGBO 18W Refugium Light Aquarium LED Light Fish Tank Bulb with 6 Band Full Spectrum for Coral Reef Saltwater Tank Plants Growth Another relatively inexpensive option might be a hipargero LED Aquarium Light - 30W LED Aquarium Light Saltwater Lamp for Corol Reef Fish Nano Tank Of course it depends on your tank size, but the premium choice might be a Prime 16 HD LED Reef Light from Aqua Illumination: 1 Quote Link to comment
