Firefish15
Hey all! So it seems like a lot of the time, all of my cerith snails hang out right near the surface of the water. As I type this, three are sitting in the outflow of the HOB filter, and the other two are at the top of the glass. Is there a reason for this behavior? It is a common occurrence? Thanks! sublunary
Lol they are intertidal snails, so yes they will hang out outside of the water sometimes. I find the dwarf ceriths do it more than the bigger ones. Nerite snails do the same. Some of them will get pretty far outside the tank too! 3 Quote Link to comment
Seadragon
In the past 2 years, I only had 1 Cerith snail recently (it was a few days ago) that climbed out of the tank and sat on top of the rim. I looked at it, it may have been stuck somehow, and pushed it back into the tank. It recovered and peace has been restored. I do see them hanging out sometimes near the waterline. In fact, I see one right now doing that. 1 Quote Link to comment

Murphs_Reef
I have around 40 cerith. In the sand during the day and up top on the glass and in the surface current at night. Normal to me. 1 Quote Link to comment
Firefish15
I had it in my head that nerites were the intertidal ones that escape. Probably just confusion on my part. Been a longer day that started early. 😂 At any rate, thanks for the replies! Glad it’s normal! 4 Quote Link to comment
stevie1493
Totally normal. IME Nerites have done it more in my tanks but ceriths do it too. I make a habit of checking behind my tank once per day to see if any have climbed out onto the floor. Have probably saved 4 Ceriths in the last week. Mine are intertidal and can survive quite awhile out of the water or with changing parameters. Noticed them inside my siphon tube for the first time today LOL 1 2 Quote Link to comment
