InAtTheDeepEnd
Pre water change parameters AMmonia: 0.25ppm Nitrites: 0.5ppm Nitrates: 30ppm (?) I think Sg: 1.027/8....high I think because tank is running hot Temp: 27°c kH: 11 pH: 7.4 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
8 litres out. Post water change parameters AMmonia: <0.25ppm Nitrites: 0.25ppm Nitrates: 5-10ppm pH: 7.8 kH: 11 Temp: 25/26°c Sg: 1.025 Tank still hot. Left lid open for now..... Haven't added anymore ammonia. I was going to but the pre wc parameters make me think it's not necessary....? 1 Quote Link to comment

Nope that's done.. leave it 24hrs and test again.. there will be no ammonia tomorrow then a BIG water change to get nitrates down.. the CUC. Told you didn't I??, I don't owe you that free first fish now 👍🏼🤣 1 Quote Link to comment

Though salinity is to high, swap out half a cup of saltwater for RO, your refractometer is saying 1.027 to me. Target 1.026 or 1.025 EDIT: Just for fun. And to compare here's mine, notice how empty this beer bottle is becoming, might need a change in that as well!!🤣 Edited September 12, 2021 by Murphych Test results 1 Quote Link to comment

InAtTheDeepEnd
I keep looking here too but it doesn't say how much you actually receive.....https://coralz.co.uk/ £4 a frag seems almost too good to be true 2 Quote Link to comment

So £4 a head. That's about right. A Rasta is going to cost about £8 a head, a utter chaos around £10. For first coral I would get a rock of Radio Active or space invaders or something like that as they are very quick to multiply. You can have 4 or 5 new polyps every couple of weeks at peak growth from a small frag. My collection so far is: Radio Active, Blue Hornets, Rastas, Bullseye, Kryptonite, Alien invasion, Red People Eater, Green Implosion, Utter Chaos 1 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
Hmmmfffffff where has that ammonia come from? 🤔 maybe killed off some pods doing the water change, is that plausible? No nitrites anymore though. Going to have to be *slooooow* stocking this, it's temperamental as hell 😆 nitrates weren't as high as the pic makes them look though, more like 10ppm. pH seems to fluctuate through the day as well between brown/yellow on the high range test and about 7.8. but it matches with changes in the ammonia level and the presence of unionised ammonia will change pH I suppose. Oh and for some reason the temp goes back up to 26°c unless I have the lid open at all times. Which I don't want to do. Hope 26°c won't cook anything. 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
Still going to get cuc next week and just test daily and water change as needed though. Going to recheck ammonia with salifert kit tomorrow too as I know API can be very sensitive. 2 Quote Link to comment
Murphs_Reef
That done seem right to me. Was zero. No ammonia added after a 33% water change. I can't see it being pods. And unless that tank has something rotting in it, I can't see how ammonia would rise in such short order on its own. Re do the test I think. 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
If you see reports of flooding on the news today pay it no mind.... It'll just be me crying over WTF is going on in this tank!!!! No water change. Ammonia: 0.5ppm(???) Or potentially even higher Nitrites: 0.25ppm Nitrates: 10ppm Why is the ammonia RISING when nothings been added 😭😭😭😭 Quote Link to comment

API tubes are terrible for getting clean. I must say that's odd.. if it was just the ammonia I would say it's the test kit but the nitrite API is usually solid. Ammonia can only go up if it has a source, is rotten food, dead animal, ghost feeding the tank or dosing ammonia.. the rock was dead white base rock wasn't it? 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
Okayyyyyyy turns out I'm just a lazy bum who needs to do a better job rinsing her test tubes 😂😂 pH: 7.8 Ammonia: <0.25ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: 5-10ppm 😁✌️ 2 1 Quote Link to comment

Murphs_Reef
Well done. 👍🏼 I wouldn't get to excited about pH if I'm honest, rather get a alkalinity test kit when you have some coral (or just ahead of time). So CUC, what's on your mind? 1 Quote Link to comment
InAtTheDeepEnd
First of all just snails..... Was gonna do just 1 nassarius but saw trochus in lfs and thought they were cool too so 1 of each to start with. Snails are great imho. If that's not enough cuc add blue legged hermit and cerith down the line. One of everything basically 😂 1 Quote Link to comment
